À propos de Maya

My name is Maya and I would love to help you with your English! But first, let me tell you a little about myself so you know who you will be talking to!

I am from New York City but when I was quite young, my family moved to Spain and that is where I grew up. Now I have embarked on a new adventure by living in France and learning French. I studied Social Anthropology and Development Studies at the University of London. After trying different things, I decided I wanted to become an English teacher and did the CELTA teacher training. It was a really great experience, and it helped me get started on my English teaching journey. However, I would say that a lot of my learning as a teacher has come from working with my students and seeing what works and what doesn't with different individuals and learning styles.

I love meeting and talking to new people when I have the opportunity. When I am not teaching, I love spending time outdoors and going on hikes and being in nature. I am also very interested in NVC (nonviolent communication) and am currently exploring that. I look forward to meeting you and hearing about your interests while practicing and helping you with your English :)

I teach different levels (beginner to advanced). In my teaching, the student is at the center: i.e., I want you to do most of the talking, because that is how you will improve. The class will take place only in English, so you will have the opportunity to be completely immersed in English during our time together.

I think one of the best ways to improve in a new language is by practice, practice, and more practice. I like to use soft corrections in my classes as a way to help you improve, but I don't want you to feel you have to be perfect, as mistakes are a necessary part of the learning process. We will use a variety of materials to keep the classes interesting and productive (videos, audio, articles, textbooks, business English materials and exercises, and lots of discussion!).

J'enseigne à différents niveaux (de débutant à avancé). Dans mon enseignement, l'étudiant est au centre : c'est-à-dire que je veux que vous parliez le plus possible, car c'est ainsi que vous vous améliorerez.

Je pense que l'une des meilleures façons de s'améliorer dans une nouvelle langue est de pratiquer, pratiquer et encore pratiquer. J'aime utiliser des corrections douces dans mes cours pour vous aider à vous améliorer, mais je ne veux pas que vous vous sentiez obligés d'être parfaits, car les erreurs sont une partie nécessaire du processus d'apprentissage. Nous utiliserons une variété de matériel pour que les cours restent intéressants et productifs (vidéos, audio, articles, manuels, matériel 'Business English', et beaucoup de discussions !)
