Hello! I’m Duncan, an English teacher with over 30 years of experience in AP Literature, IB English (SL/HL), and IGCSE Literature in English (0475)

I first encountered Duncan McCeachern at the beginning of graduate school at the University of Pennsylvania, and I was immediately drawn to him because of his remarkable mastery across all areas of the Humanities. Time and again, Duncan came to class exceptionally well-prepared, asked incisive, higher-order questions, and consistently maintained a welcoming, encouraging presence.

While usually gentle in his approach, he is not afraid to challenge students and hold them accountable for producing their best work. As a superior writer and teacher of writing, Duncan drills down on details and carefully examines the evidence students select to support their arguments. If the evidence does not align with their thesis, he does not hesitate to say, “Please find better evidence.” This clarity and rigor push students to sharpen their thinking and strengthen their work.

Duncan is also exceptionally skilled at coaching students through the college essay process, guiding them to elevate their writing while ensuring their authentic voice shines through. Without hesitation, I can say he is one of the best all-around educators I have ever encountered, bar none.

For more than 30 years, Duncan has taught English Literature in creative, engaging, and impactful ways at The American School in Paris. Schools do not retain faculty for such long tenures unless the educator is both outstanding and continually relevant—and Duncan exemplifies both.
