À propos de Paul
I’m a native English speaker, interested in language since childhood. Having studied French to A level, I studied linguistics in the final year of my classics degree at Cambridge University (1984). I won the Hallam Prize there in 1983 for translating Latin and Greek.
I have spent most of my career helping others to learn, to help themselves and to be active in the community. I have been a professional adviser, counsellor and supervisor. I have also been a manager of advice centres and volunteering centres in the UK. I have helped many people to learn new skills and overcome personal problems. I took a diploma in counselling at Bristol University in 2006, and a Master of Science degree in psychology at the University of Plymouth in 2014, which included the psychology of language and the psychology of learning.
I moved to southern Charente in 2016 to experience life in rural France. In 2019 I decided to combine my interests in language and personal development and became a qualified teacher of English as a foreign language. I found I already had a high level of the interpersonal skills needed, through my decades of experience in helping people with practical and psychological problems through transformational learning. I apply the extra teaching skills I gained then to teaching French to English speakers.
I currently offer:

• Private lessons by webcam

French as a foreign language for speakers of English
One-to-one tuition with a native speaker of English, resident in France for 5 years, qualified and experienced in teaching and counselling. I am an expert in listening, confidence building and motivation. I help you feel at ease while you practice, and I appreciate the courage it takes to make mistakes as part of learning. I give you constructive feedback on what you aim to improve, whether that is speaking, listening, reading, writing, grammar, or vocabulary. I know from my own experience what it is like to move to France, set up home, build a new life and communicate effectively in French.
With one to one you decide what you want to learn, and you do it at your own pace. There is no need to feel pressure to keep up with others in a class, or be held back by them.
